Tandawazi-The place to be this weekend!

Tandawazi is this weekend’s huger than huge festival this weekend.

I had a chance to sit down with the lovely Priya Channa and Brian who are the organisers of the festival that is being compared to the V festival and  even Glastonbury…talk about awesome!

So what is it? Well it’s a festival of culture.

According to the organisers, TANDAWAZI hopes to entertain, delight & display the mosaic of Kenyan cultures through dance, music & martial arts (Capoeira being showcased in Kenya for the first time!)

December 4th features Kenya’s first ever gathering of international Capoeira Masters in a grading ceremony at the Louis Leakey Auditorium followed by an Afro-Latin soiree complete with cocktails & home-cooked cuisine.

December 5th features a variety of acts across two stages all day long with demonstrations, kids play area, art displays, mini workshops, an evening concert (Feat. Kanji, Kaz and they told me they were trying to land KIDDUM!!!) and much, much more.

Love him or not, one cannot mention the top names in Kenyan music, and especially in Gospel circles, without acknowledging Kanjii Mbugua. Some may not even know that he is an integral part of one of Kenya’s pioneering Gospel groups, US-based Milele. The larger part of his credit lies in the fact that over the last few years, Kanjii has presided over one of the most successful recording houses in the region, Kijiji Records.

Proceeds from the Fest go towards empowering the youth- Project Baraza (and more, wonderful cause I tell ya!).
