Truly Italian at Trattoria’s Italian Food Festival

I love all things Italian. So when PR Guru, Shymaloe Thakrar got in touch with me regarding Trattoria’s Italian Food Festival I jumped in tummy first.

I prided myself in knowing Italian cuisine as I had cooked with Chef Simon from Fairview’s Pango restaurant for Chakula Bora and i thought i was an expert when it came to rissoto, bruscetta,  pizzas, and decadent desserts.

Boy was I wrong!

The Italian food Festival (still taking place BTW) at Trattoria to celebrate their 30 years of being in the business is defintely worth your while.

Award-winning Italian chef, Stefano Tabacchi who has years of experience with Italian cuisine and who initially cooked up a storm in Kenya has been flown down specially for this festival to cook up a storm.

The aim is to showcase a different region of Italy everyday, by highlighting the culinary delights of Sicily, Lazio, La Toscana, Emilia Romagna, Piemonte and Veneto.

I also heard that key ingredients were flown down from these regions to give it an authentic feel.

Anyway, walking into Trattoria last night was like walking into a ristorante in Italy. The scent of freshly baked bread coaxed us invitingly into the restaurant and with the soulful crooning of  the NB Jazz band we knew we were in for an evening to remember.

Each table had a cute glass with the colours of Italy and a tea light candle and I loved the little Coca cola vespers (1 of the sponsors of the event).

We were immediately sat at the rooftop terrace by our lovely server, Jimmy K and we learnt that we would be sampling cuisine from the Emilia Romagna region.

To say food was deliciously divine is an understatement! Go expecting an authentic Italian  experience from food to wine.

My favourites were the terrine of vegetable and chicken infused with balsamic vinegar, the parma ham and sweet melon, yummy Garganelli, the green lasagne gratinated with 4 cheese sauce was equally delicious.

My highlight was the vegetables like the potatoes stuffed with tomatoes and the mouth watering spinach gratinated with Parmesan cheese and the delicious tiramisu….

Service was excellent and watch out for The Luna Lounge- a hip and happening bar that screams exclusivity.
