Safaricom’s Lewa Marathon-to do or not to do…

So my Good friend Adrian is a marathon freak, and the last two years he has been trying to get me to sign up for Safcom’s (my fave subscriber, just can’t abandon it for cheaper rates) Lewa marathon.

Every year I politely make an excuse, but this year Adrian is on a mission to convince me otherwise, and since my waistline has had an  affair with everything fat(harlot she is) I am seriously pondering if I should run it!

This year te 12th edition of the Safaricom Lewa marathon will be held on the 25th June 2011 at the traditional Lewa Wildlife conservancy.

The Safaricom marathon is classified as one of the toughest marathons in the world following its harsh geographical environment and uniqueness and was initiated back in 1999.The events participation has seen gradual and impressive  rise in the number of participants from a paltry total of 180 athletes in its initial event to hosting 1050 athletes last year. The event has also grown in the region as it has continually attracted participants from other countries within the region as well as from other continents including: teams from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, New Zealand and Australia.

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore expressed his satisfaction with the yearly event and promised to continue with the socially productive event which is a custom to the Safaricom fraternity.

This year’s event will host three different races. The full marathon of 42km race, Half marathon the 21 km race and the 5km race which will cater for the registered children.

Plus money raised goes to charity.

Watch this space to see if I do it this year…..
