According to the lawsuit, Louboutin’s shoes have had red soles since 1992, an idea the designer originated when he painted red nail polish on the black soles of a pair of women’s shoes. Louboutin charges that Yves Saint Laurent began selling red-soled shoes this year, which the suit said is, quote, “likely to cause and is causing confusion, mistake and deception among the relevant purchasing public.”
