R.I.P Wangari Maathai

Wangari Maathai passed away last night after battling cancer for close to a year.

She was the first African woman to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.

We have to thank her for keeping our forests safe and re-inventing the Karura Forest (and keeping Uhuru Park or some co-orp would have turned those gardens into a concrete jungle).

She founded the Green Belt Movement and I still remeber that moment when she made history and won the Nobel Peace Prize- I was so proud to be Kenyan!

Her autobiography ‘Unbowed’ made me respect her even more for the trauma, strength and determination she always lived her life with.

May you rest Wangari, you were loved and respected by many.

And THANK YOU for making a difference!
